My expertise has been in the world of automotive oil filtration. I approached the largest and most successful automotive oil filter manufacturers in the United States as as a backyard inventor. I did so as a total industry outsider. My objective was to license 2 disruptive additive treated oil filter patents and my valuable trade secrets.

My two patents would eventually give birth to both the Fram Double Guard and the Fram TRT oil filters that were marketed throughout North America, beginning in the late spring of 1996. These two patents were also responsible for laying the groundwork for subsequent models that Fram would later introduce. When I began my association with AlliedSignal/Fram, not a single one of their 30 filter engineers could lay claim to a single oil filter patent!

At the time of my association with Fram, they were a wholly owned business unit of AlliedSignal's Automotive Aftermarket Division. My two benchmark patents are 4,751,901 & 5,209,842. They were so revolutionary that they created an entirely new oil filter category for additive treated oil filters worldwide!

I have been cited in the USPTO prior art over 159 times and counting...

The USPTO provided only six citations ranging from 1937, '38, '76, '77, '78 as the prior art for this patent.

None of the prior art citations were oil filter manufactures.

Since its grant, the '901 patent has been cited 122 times by companies such as Exxon, Baldwin, Wix, Harvard & Lubrizol from 1989-2020. AlliedSignal/Honeywell has been granted an additional 16 patents with my trade secrets and they specifically cite my ‘901 patent 16 times.

The USPTO provided only three citations ranging from 1975, '77,' 85 as the prior art for this application. None of the prior art cited were oil filter manufactures.

Since its grant, the '842 has been cited 37 times by companies such as Exxon, Baldwin, Fleetguard, Lubrizol & Mann Hummel from 1989-2020. AlliedSignal/Honeywell has been granted an additional 15 patents with my trade secrets and they specifically cite my ‘842 patent 15 times.

I conceived the manufacturing, marketing & business strategies for both the Fram Double Guard and TRT oil filters. I provided the road map that led to the trademark licensing deal that was struck between AlliedSignal and DuPont for the use of Dupont's ultra-critical Teflon®. The Double Guard & the TRT oil filters were sold in Walmart as well as most of the major automotive retailers throughout North America for over a decade. The Double Guard's roll-out in Walmart was so disruptive, that the ensuing theft that followed was unlike anything that Walmart had ever experienced! After the mind-boggling theft of over 750,000 oil filters, which occured during the first 3 months, the entire Double Guard filter line had to be removed from the shelves throughout North America and then repackaged in theft-proof packaging before it could once again take its place on the retailer's shelves.

I should be the co-inventor of an additional 31 patents that AlliedSignal/Honeywell filed without my knowledge in direct violation of US Patent Law: 35 USC §115 & 116 and the Uniform Trade Secret Act. They violated our proprietary information agreement, our trade secret agreement & our licensing agreement.
